SEASON 2023

WEEK 6

Week HighMustafa148.9
Week LowAdel81.4
THE WEEKLY REPORT: twelve teams, six games, zero accountability.

Issa handled Adel, 113.1-81.4, in a game with all the drama of a scheduled oil change. Adil beat Omar H. 139.1-119.4 and nobody will remember it by Thursday. Mustafa outscored Tarick 148.9-131.3, a sentence that fully captures the excitement level. Zaid beat Karim 101.2-93.2, and the less said about the loser's flex spot, the kinder. Yousef edged Hamed by 4.7 in a game decided by pocket change and prayer. Ahmad escaped Omar A. by 1.9 points, the fantasy equivalent of a field goal as time expires.

Mustafa dropped a league-best 148.9, which buys exactly one week of trash talk credit. Week's worst: Adel with 81.4. Twelve managers, and one of them scored THAT.

In the season race: Yousef still leads the league in scoring, while Adel continues auditioning for the punishment.

Set your lineups. Or don't. It's clearly optional for some of you.

Karim
(Abu Jabal)
Pregame · The Booth

I've broken down the matchups. One of them broke down right back. On paper this is a coin flip: Abu Jabal at 3-2, Campaign Papi at 4-1. On tape, it's two teams praying the other starts the wrong flex. On to the action, where the points are made up and the projections don't matter.

Postgame · The Booth

It ends 101.2-93.2. No drama, no controversy, just Karim quietly updating his excuses spreadsheet. 194.4 combined points. The booth checked twice, then checked its will to live. Zaid improves to 5-1 and has earned exactly one week of walking slightly taller. Use it wisely. As for Karim: 3-3 now. At some point it stops being bad luck and starts being a body of work.

Omar A.
(Ninjer)
103.3@105.2
Ahmad
(Lucy's Finest)
Pregame · The Booth

Every week I say it can't get dumber. Every week this league accepts the challenge. Ninjer at 3-2 should handle this. Of course, 'should' is the most dangerous word in this league, usually spoken right before Ahmad ruins someone's weekend. May the best roster win, and may the worst manager notice.

Postgame · The Booth

FINAL: Lucy's Finest edges Ninjer by 1.9. Omar A. will find the exact bench player who cost him this by Tuesday, and it will hurt. Ahmad (1-4) beats Omar A. (3-2), proving once again that in this league, pedigree is a rumor. Ahmad climbs to 2-4, and for one week, the film room has nothing bad to say. Enjoy the silence. That's 3-3 for Omar A., whose season is now best described as 'a rebuilding year for morale.'

Adel(RIP 💀)
(Be my Jaan Robinson)
81.4@113.1
Issa
(Shamjesus)
Pregame · The Booth

Two managers enter. One leaves pretending they 'didn't even check their lineup.' Bookmakers would call Shamjesus (3-2) a heavy favorite over Be my Jaan Robinson (0-5). This league would call that an invitation for chaos. Be my Jaan Robinson has lost 5 straight, which by my math is 5 more consecutive losses than a competently managed franchise should allow. Somebody tell the benches to stay warm. They usually outscore the starters around here.

Postgame · The Booth

113.1-81.4. The kind of result you forget by Thursday unless you're Adel, in which case it lingers. 194.5 total points between them. The real loser here was every single person who watched. Adel's 81.4 was the lowest score in the league this week. The LOWEST. Out of twelve teams. I need everyone to sit with that. Issa moves to 4-2. A real analyst would call that momentum. I'll call it a stay of execution. Now 0-6, Adel enters the part of the season where 'mathematically alive' does a lot of heavy lifting.

Tarick
(Balls Deep)
131.3@148.9
Mustafa
(Team Mohammad)
Pregame · The Booth

The film doesn't lie, and unfortunately for one of these teams, I've watched it. Records: 2-3 and 1-4. Identical enough that both fanbases — populations of one — are equally nervous. The tape rolls at kickoff. The excuses roll shortly after.

Postgame · The Booth

FINAL: 148.9-131.3. Mustafa was better. Not by a story, just by a score. League-best 148.9 for Mustafa this week. The booth acknowledges excellence the way it acknowledges everything: reluctantly. 3-3. Mustafa played the odds and, for once, the odds played along. Tarick slides to 1-5. The schedule ahead offers no apologies and neither does the booth.

Omar H.
(Omar’s B*tches)
119.4@139.1
Adil
(Dilmeisters)
Pregame · The Booth

Somewhere, a bye week goes unnoticed. But not by me. Never by me. Adil rolls in at 4-1 while Omar H. is dragging a 2-3 record behind them like a busted trailer hitch. The metrics say mismatch. The metrics are being polite. Adil's 3-game streak is real. So is gravity. One of them wins eventually. Let the games begin. Let the group chat suffer.

Postgame · The Booth

Dilmeisters wins 139.1-119.4 in a game the tape will file under 'competent, mostly.' Adil banks it and sits at 5-1. Somewhere a projection model feels validated. Briefly. Omar H. falls to 2-4. The group chat has been notified. The group chat was already laughing.

Hamed(RIP 💀)
(fantasy sucks)
110.7@115.4
Yousef
(McCafre)
Pregame · The Booth

The scoreboard is warming up and so is my disappointment. McCafre (3-2) versus fantasy sucks (4-1). Vegas calls this a pick'em. I call it mutually assured mediocrity. fantasy sucks rides a 4-game heater into this one. Regression is undefeated, but sure, enjoy the moment. One of you is about to be a cautionary tale. The booth thanks you in advance.

Postgame · The Booth

A 4.7-point finish, 115.4 to 110.7. The margin of a missed extra point, a wrong flex, or a cruel and personal universe. Yousef improves to 4-2. Credit where due, and I do mean the bare minimum of credit. Hamed falls to 4-2. The good news: it can't get worse. The bad news: I said that last week too.
