The scoreboard is warming up and so is my disappointment. On paper this is a coin flip: Fourth and Bald at 5-7, Follicle Failure at 4-8. On tape, it's two teams praying the other starts the wrong flex. Aziz has lost 3 in a row and started describing it as 'a process.' The process is losing. Buckle up. The projections have chosen violence.

Fourth and Bald by 59.4. The tape will be studied by historians, comedians, and Omar H.'s therapist. The week's basement belongs to Follicle Failure at 79.5. The booth has reviewed both rosters and would like to speak to a manager. Either one. Mustafa (6-6) and Yousef (7-5) come in dead even on paper, which is a polite way of saying neither has earned my respect. The booth's official forecast: chaos, with a chance of somebody blaming their kicker.

Yousef takes it 108.1-97.9. Comfortable enough that nobody panicked, close enough that somebody should have. Yousef is 8-5 now. The booth has updated his file from 'concerning' to 'under review.' Mustafa falls to 6-7. The group chat has been notified. The group chat was already laughing.

Somewhere, a bye week goes unnoticed. But not by me. Never by me. MARLBURROW REDS has been humming along at 8-4. Shamjesus is sitting at 5-7 and calling it a rebuilding year. In a redraft league. Think about that. Issa has won 3 straight, and has started walking around like they invented zone-read analytics. The tape rolls at kickoff. The excuses roll shortly after.

Final score 154.9 to 107.0. Issa won by 47.9, which in this league is less a victory and more a formal humiliation. Issa (5-7) beats Omar A. (8-4), proving once again that in this league, pedigree is a rumor. League-best 154.9 for Issa this week. The booth acknowledges excellence the way it acknowledges everything: reluctantly. That's 6-7 for Issa. Say what you want about the man — the booth certainly will — but the wins are real. Omar A. sits at 8-5 and has begun using the phrase 'points against' unprompted. A cry for help.

Every week I say it can't get dumber. Every week this league accepts the challenge. Talkin Tua Teenager (8-4) versus Band$ Emeka Dance (7-5). Vegas calls this a pick'em. I call it mutually assured mediocrity. On to the action, where the points are made up and the projections don't matter.

It ends 147.3-90.0. The booth has watched a lot of football. This was adjacent to some of it. Adil climbs to 9-4, and for one week, the film room has nothing bad to say. Enjoy the silence. Karim drops to 7-6, and somewhere his bench players are demanding a trade to the starting lineup.
